WASHINGTON — Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert does not plan to endorse anyone in the Texas Senate Republican primary between Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Steve Stockman.
Stockman, who, like Gohmert, is known for his fiery and often controversial commentary, announced a challenge to Cornyn, filing to run at the last minute on Monday.
“I didn’t know he was gonna run, and I have not–I didn’t endorse him,” Gohmert told The Daily Caller when asked what he thought of Stockman’s Senate bid.
“I hadn’t planned on endorsing anybody in any office in the primary,” he added.
Tea party groups hoping to oust Cornyn had courted Gohmert as a possible challenger, but Gohmert himself shot down rumors that he might enter the race.
