Despite Secretary of State John Kerry’s remarks that the Syrian town of Kobani was not a “priority,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey told ABC’s Martha Raddatz on “This Week” that he had “no doubt” ISIS would commit atrocities on its residents if the city fell. Dempsey made the remarks when questioned on local and United Nations claims that five thousand people could be massacred if Kobani fell. “Whether there are still five thousand people there or not is a matter of conjecture at this point,” he said. “But I have no doubt that ISIL will conduct the same kind of horrific atrocities if they have the opportunity to do so.”
