A New Mexico man told police officers he beat a friend to death while watching the Netflix original series “The Walking Dead” because his friend was turning into a zombie, according to the Associated Press.
Police were called to an apartment in Grants, N.M., on Thursday where they allegedly found 23-year-old Damon Perry wielding a knife. Officers then entered the apartment and found the body of Christopher Paquin, Perry’s 23-year-old friend.
Perry and Paquin were binge-watching the popular TV series “The Walking Dead,” which follows a local sheriff’s deputy who awakens from a coma to a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies.
Perry told officials Paquin began “to change into a zombie” and tried to bite Perry.
According to investigators, Perry used a microwave and an electric guitar to beat his zombie-friend to death. The two had been drinking heavily all day and Perry attributed his actions to watching too much of the hit TV series.
Grants police spokesmen said on Sunday Perry is being held on a murder charge.
