White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest called the killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo a “tragedy.”

While speaking from Air Force One on Wednesday, Earnest said, “There have been people across the country that have their own personal opinion about what may have contributed to what can legitimately be described as a tragedy.” (RELATED: Trump Calls The Killing Of The Cincinnati Zoo Gorilla A ‘Tough Call’ [VIDEO])

According to The Hill, Earnest added that he was not aware of “any official position that I can articulate from the White House.”

Last weekend, a 3-year old boy managed to get into the gorilla exhibit and the zoo ended up killing the endangered 17-year-old silverback gorilla.
