Uber made alterations and additions to its ride-sharing app Monday in an attempt to appease hundreds of thousands of drivers around the world.

Uber is now concentrating on placating drivers instead of focusing mainly on bettering service for riders. Drivers have publicly protested and enlisted in several class-action lawsuits, including one where Uber had to pay $100 million to approximately 385,000 drivers. The company still retained the right to treat drivers as independent contractors, rather than employees.

In a blog post published on its website, Uber asked the questions, “How can we cut down on the time you spend between trips? Where can you get trips when you’re on your way home or on the way to run an errand?”

One of the new features for drivers includes instantaneous payment after each completed ride, rather than waiting until the end of the week for the earnings to be accumulated.

Another improvement was to optimize the efficiency of a driver’s life. Drivers can input their destinations twice a day, and Uber operators “will only send trip requests that are on your way.” In other words, Uber wants to help drivers work while traveling to shop for groceries or returning from a long day at work.

Other features include adjourning incoming ride requests in order to take a bathroom break or refuel and adding rewards and discounts for drivers who also uses the services as a rider.

According to Uber, “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve the driver experience.” It established a blog specifically for drivers called “Behind the Wheel.” The hope is to have this medium serve as an outlet for suggestions and comments.
