“It was cute,” Spicer said during an interview with Fox and Friends. “It was funny. I’d rather us be talking about the issues the president is so committed to helping Americans on, but you know it’s part of American culture.”

Spicer said he got a lot of texts about the skit the morning after it aired.

“Walking out of church, I looked down,” he said. “There’s a lot of texts this morning. I had to click on the link and see what it’s all about.”

The late night show used Melissa McCarthy — dressed in an ill-fitting suit and blonde wig — to mock the press secretary Saturday night.

The “Bridesmaids” actress delivered a shouted message from the lectern in the briefing room while ignoring questions about Steve Bannon’s role on the National Security Council and locking a CNN reporter in a cage. (RELATED: ‘Saturday Night Live’ Mocks White House With Sean Spicer Sketch)

“I know that myself and the press have gotten off to a rocky start,” McCarthy’s Spicer said. “When I say rocky start, I mean it in the sense of ‘Rocky,’ the movie, because I came out here to punch you in the face. And also I don’t talk so good.”
