A homeowner in Florida noticed someone sitting in his Jeep, attempting to steal it, but the attempt was derailed when the owner detained him at gunpoint, the Palm Beach Post reported Sunday.

The drama began Friday morning when Walton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 10. The vehicle was reported stolen in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and was found to be purposely set on fire. Shortly after this discovery, the same person responsible for setting the vehicle on fire was found attempting to steal a Jeep.

The suspect, identified as Cody Dwayne Hynum, was arrested and put in the back of a police car after he was detained by a gun-wielding citizen. While law enforcement were investigating the crime scenes, Hynum kicked out the rear driver’s side window and got into the driver’s seat of the patrol car. The suspect took off, driving with his knees and chin where he eventually crashed the vehicle. Hynum then fled into the woods where he was tased and taken into custody by law enforcement.

Hynum racked up nine felony counts, including two counts of grand theft auto, two counts of burglary, larceny, criminal mischief, resisting arrest with violence, fleeing and eluding and escape.
