House minority leader Nancy Pelosi called for Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan to resign Thursday amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Pelosi has been facing pressure from a number of her Democratic colleagues calling for Conyers to resign and defended Conyers from the harassment allegations on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. She called the representative an “icon.”
“I don’t know who they are,” Pelosi said Sunday when asked by the host whether she believed the women. “Do you? They have not really come forward.”
Pelosi changed her tone Monday and said she believed Conyers accusers after speaking to one of them privately and finally called for the Michigan congressman to resign Thursday.

At least five women have accused Conyers of a sexually harassing them while they worked for him. (RELATED: Pelosi Changes Her Tune On Conyers Accusers)
One accuser said that Conyers summoned her into his office while he was only wearing underwear. Conyers has denied all accusations, but stepped down from his position on the House Judiciary Committee while an investigation into his behavior is going on.
Pelosi’s announcement comes the same day news broke that Conyers was placed in the hospital due to a stress related illness.
