Those Expecting Fireworks At Christine Ford’s Kavanaugh Hearing Should Pump The Brakes Says Law Professor Jonathan Turley

George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley said he doesn’t expect either side to land a “takedown,” during Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“I think she will testify. The question is, what do we do with a tie? It’s very unlikely that we’re going to have a takedown by either side,” Turley said on “Fox & Friends” Sunday. (RELATED: Law Professor Jonathan Turley Says There Is No Middle Ground With Kavanaugh Accuser)

Ford accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh for groping her over her clothes at a party in high school and claimed he drunkenly tried to remove her clothing by force.

Turley thinks it will be a delicate balancing act for both sides as they try to maintain credibility, but said it’s unlikely either Kavanaugh or Ford will make a major mistake.

“The questioning is likely to be quite intense particularly for Judge Kavanaugh. It becomes a little more of a difficulty for the Republicans in pressing too hard on Dr. Ford,” he declared.

“These are two accomplished professionals. I think they are unlikely to make a serious mistake. We don’t know,” he said. “But at the end, we’ll have to decide. What happens with a tie? In a court of law, the presumption goes to the defendant. But this is not a court of law and these sure are not judges.”

Turley also said it would be unfair to have Kavanaugh speak to his innocence, before the committee hears from Ford. He said Kavanaugh should be given the chance to respond, after Ford states her allegations against him.

“No, it would not [be fair]. That sort of falls in the category of you swing first, then I pitch. The point of this entire hearing is for him to respond to these allegations. We need to get those allegations under oath for both parties,” he said.

“But he has to respond to what she says. At the end this may end up just a matter of credibility — of who you simply believe. But it makes little sense for him to go first before she has put all of her statement on the record,” Turley concluded.
