Iowa Hawkeyes football coach Kirk Ferentz apparently isn’t sure how his team ended up in the situation they’re currently facing.

The Hawkeyes have been consumed by chaos ever since several players made accusations of racially-charged behavior from strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle, who has since been placed on leave. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

“I don’t want to say I was blind-sided … but the bottom line is we don’t want anybody to leave this place not feeling like this was a good experience,” Ferentz told the media during a Sunday call to discuss the ongoing situation, according to CBS Sports.

When asked how Iowa ended up in a situation that escalated like this, Ferentz said, “That’s a fair question.” Yeah, that would seem to be an accurate assessment.

The legendary Iowa coach also added, “I don’t want to say [the reaction] is a ‘spin off,’ but I think people are tired. People are frustrated. They are angry.”

I have no idea what kind of resolution Iowa will find in this situation, but this is such a bad look for Ferentz and the Hawkeyes as a whole.

I’m not sure “That’s a fair question” is how you want to respond when asked how you got to be here. The program is engulfed with issues, and the buck has to stop with Ferentz.

At the end of the day, the head coach is the man ultimately responsible for a program. That’s just the way it works.

Ferentz has to get control of this situation sooner than later. If he doesn’t, the Hawkeyes will just continue on in anarchy.

We’ll see what happens, but I wouldn’t say things are looking great right now in Iowa City. Somebody needs to get a grip on what’s happening there.
