Millions of Americans were laid off in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic. Throughout the summer and into the fall, however, unemployment shrank considerably from its high in March and April. President Donald Trump and other members of the administration have touted the falling unemployment numbers as evidence of a successful economic recovery from the pandemic.
