Fox Business anchor Stuart Varney pressed former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow on the hypothetical question of whether he would accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom if offered by President Donald Trump. Tebow, however, refused to directly answer the question.

The two were discussing New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s decision to not accept the award from the president, who has come under heavy fire of late for his actions surrounding the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

After asking Tebow, an outspoken Christian, for his take on Belichick’s decision and not getting a direct answer, Varney asked, “If the medal of freedom has been offered to you, would you take it?”

“I like the persistence of it in trying to get to the hard question,” Tebow responded, laughing. “I think there’s so much right now that you have to weigh in looking at everything that’s going on. For me, my biggest purpose right now is trying to bring people together with faith, hope and love …”

“But you see what you’re doing, Tim? But you see what you’re doing?” Varney pressed, to which Tebow agreed.

“By avoiding a direct answer to the question, you’re ducking the question,” said the Fox Business anchor. “You’re not bringing people together.”

“That’s true,” Tebow agreed. “Because if you just directly answer a question like that, there is so much that’s implied in so many ways, right? And in a decision like that, you have to weigh so many different things.”

The former University of Florida quarterback went on to explain how answering such hypothetical questions can get people into “sticky situations.”

“Every decision, you know, has consequences,” he said. “And so you try to make the best, wisest decision possible. And I think, you know, without getting information it’s tough to make an educated, wise decision.”

“That is a fair answer, Tim Tebow,” Varney responded before ending the interview. (RELATED: Freshman GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Says She Will Introduce Articles Of Impeachment Against Biden On January 21)

While Tebow was floated as a potential speaker at the 2016 Republican convention, the former college football superstar has generally stayed away from speaking publicly about politics during the Trump administration.
