Filmmaker Michael Moore took a commanding lead – and set a high bar — for the worst tweet of all time with his response to the shooting in Boulder, Colorado.

Moore suggested that the shooter, identified as Syrian-born immigrant Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, proved that he had truly assimilated into American culture when he opened fire in a grocery store and killed 10 people, one police officer among them. Along with a picture of the Statue of Liberty, Moore tweeted the caption, “The life of Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa shows that people can come from all over the world and truly assimilate into our beloved American culture.”

Moore’s tweet did not get the reception he might have hoped for, as critics from both sides of the aisle chastised him for his assessment.
