An 83-year old British woman was saved when first responders were alerted to her location after hearing her pet cat’s meowing, according to BBC.
The cat, Piran, was credited by Bodmin police for saving the woman, whose name was not released, BBC reported.
Tamar Longmuir told Sky News that Piran’s “persistent meowing” was the key to locating the woman, who had fallen 70 feet into a ravine “with incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain” near Wadebridge in the northern part of Cornwall.
“The cat is very attached to her, and he was going back and forth in the gateway and meowing, so I decided to go and search the maize field,” she said. (RELATED: REPORT: Veteran In Tactical Gear Raids Animal Shelter To Retrieve Cat)
Longmuir climbed down the ravine after hearing a faint response. She then climbed back up to call neighbors, who alerted authorities. Firefighters hoisted her out of the ravine and flew her to a hospital via a medevac helicopter. She was later reported to be in stable condition despite her fall and ordeal, BBC reported.
“It’s a massive ‘well done’ to all the emergency services who worked together and to Piran,” an eyewitness who declined to identify herself told the BBC. “It could have been far worse.”
Sky News reported that neighbors were filling in for the woman as the black cat’s staff while she was recovering.
