Professional boxer Musa Yamak passed away Saturday after suffering an apparent heart attack in the ring.

Yamak, 38, was unbeaten at the time of his death in Munich, Germany, and was in the midst of a fight with Hamza Wandera, TMZ reported. Yamak collapsed on the mat just before the third round of the match, and was immediately surrounded by trainers and other medical personnel, but they were unable to revive him, the outlet reported.

He passed away in hospital later that day of a reported heart attack, the outlet reported.

The Turkish-born German boxer turned pro in 2017 and had eight knockouts under his belt, the New York Post reported. He won the WBFed International title in 2021, according to the outlet.

“We lost our compatriot Musa Askan Yamak, a boxer from Alucra, who won European and Asian championships, at a young age after a heart attack,” Turkish Assemblyman Hasan Turan posted on Twitter. (RELATED: US Citizen Killed In Ukraine During Russian Attack)

Yamak’s death is the second boxing death in 2022, according to the Mirror. Armenian-Russian boxer Arrest Sahakyan, 26, died 10 days after falling into a coma after a fight in late December 2021, the outlet continued.

Sahakyan was knocked out by Russian boxer Igor Semernin, the Mirror reported. He suffered from swelling in his brain, and was forced to undergo surgery prior to his death, the outlet noted.
