A former federal prosecutor called the FBI “a willing collaborator” with the Clinton campaign Friday while discussing developments in the trial of Igor Danchenko.

“I think the interesting thing is how Durham is approaching this trial and how different that is from, say, the way the Sussman trial…where it looked like they were basically vouching for the FBI and the way the Sussman case was framed the FBI was duped when the evidence seemed to suggest the FBI was a willing collaborator with the elements from the Clinton campaign,” former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy said, referring to the trial that ended with the May acquittal of Michael Sussman, a lawyer for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Danchenko, who allegedly served as a source for the Steele Dossier, faces charges for making false statements to the FBI. Durham clashed with Brian Auten, an FBI analyst, earlier this week.

“The first witness that Durham called testified that they offered Steele a million dollars to prove the allegations he was making, and they never had to pay the million dollars because he couldn’t prove it,” McCarthy said. “Nevertheless, they went into the FISA court under oath four times in a case where they were essentially telling a United States court that a candidate for president who then became during the investigation the sitting president of the United States might be an asset of the Russian government.”

“In January of 2017, when they finally got around to interviewing Danchenko, you would think they would interview the main source of the information before they ever went to the FISA court in the first place,” McCarthy continued. “But in January 2017 they finally get around to interviewing him after two times going to the FISA court and he tells them that what Steele gave them was complete nonsense, exaggeration and all made up. What did they do? They don’t go back to correct the record. They go back to the FISA court two more times under oath getting warrants using Steele’s information.”

The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
