Famous model and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo opened up about her financial struggles after she broke up with Nick Jonas during a new show that aired Monday.

“The Culpo Sisters” premiere episode included Culpo’s confession of dire financial straits and personal struggles in 2015 after moving to Los Angeles and later breaking up with her then-boyfriend, Nick Jonas, according to Page Six. Culpo and Jonas began dating in 2013 and ended their relationship two years later.

“I just remember night after night, looking up at my ceiling in my apartment that I couldn’t afford, thinking to myself, ‘How am I going to pay my rent?’,” Culpo said. “I couldn’t even afford my groceries.”

Culpo said she initially came to Los Angeles with boundless opportunities ahead of her, but admitted she lost herself when her relationship unraveled.

“I had no brand, no money, and I was in love,” Culpo said. “But when he broke up with me, I was kind of left with no sense of identity.”

Culpo is now able to look back and see that she had invested more into her relationship than her own independent stability. “My whole identity was in him, which is a very common story of a young person in love,” she said. The popular model said she soon realized she had to craft a new path for herself that was separate from the life she once knew with Jonas, in spite of the fact that she once thought he was the man she would marry.

“It was a serious, pivotal moment for me, but it was something that taught me that you can’t give up,” Culpo said, according to Page Six.

Culpo is now dating San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, who was recently traded from the Carolina Panthers.
