Former NFL lineman Joe Thomas had harsh words for the Indianapolis Colts front office Friday on “Good Morning Football,” after the team hired Jeff Saturday to be its new head coach.

Colts owner Jim Irsay fired head coach Frank Reich on Monday after Indianapolis got their butts kicked by the New England Patriots 26-3, dropping to 3-5-1 on the season. In response, Irsay hired Saturday to be the team’s new interim head coach, and big Joe Thomas is not happy about it at all.

During the entertaining rant the 10-time Pro Bowler said that “when you hire your drinking buddy to be the head coach of an NFL football team, it’s one of the most disrespectful things I’ve ever seen in my life.”

“The disrespect that NFL coaches have to feel when they saw that this hire was made, is higher than almost anything I can ever possibly remember in the NFL,” Thomas added.

Thomas is completely justified to feel the way that he does about this. It would literally be like if the Cleveland Browns decided to hire Joe Thomas right now to become their new head coach. It comes off as completely bonkers considering how Saturday has been totally detached from the team and players all year long. (RELATED: DC Attorney General Sues The Commanders, Roger Goodell)
The Colts could have hired an assistant coach close to the team and not a guy fresh off the street. It’s going to be challenging in itself for Saturday to get the Colts’ playbook down pat and to build solid rapport amongst the players, never mind catching up to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans are currently two games ahead of the Colts in the AFC South standings.
It’s so ludicrous that it seems like a joke, as Thomas said. The way Irsay went about this hiring process just feels wrong and unprofessional. There must be somebody more qualified on their football staff to takeover for Reich than Saturday is right now.

The Colts will need a miracle for this hiring to work for them.
