Oklahoma police released body cam footage showing the moment a fugitive hiding under a mattress ambushed three officers, sparking a gunfight.

The incident unfolded Nov. 15 at around 10:25 a.m. in Oklahoma County, the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) said in a video statement on YouTube. The OKCPD received a notification of a man, later identified as Timothy Johnson, with an out-of-state felony warrant. Officers were told Johnson was seen going into a travel trailer, but he never emerged, according to police.

Officers began searching for Johnson in the trailer after receiving consent. They came upon a mattress, lifted it up and saw Johnson hiding with a pistol in hand, police continued in the statement.

Johnson immediately opened fire on the three responding officers, who quickly retreated, video footage shows. (RELATED: ‘Oh F*ck, Oh F*ck’: Shocking Bodycam Captures Moment Wounded Officer Takes Out Alleged Cop Killer With One Bullet)

A tactical unit soon arrived and tried to make contact with Johnson but were unsuccessful from outside the trailer, police said. The tactical unit forced entry into the trailer, where they discovered Johnson deceased. Johnson was fatally shot during the gunfire, according to KFOR.

One officer sustained non-life threatening injuries after being hit in the face by flying debris, according to police. The officer was treated at a local hospital.

The three officers were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, per routine, according to police.
