A man in Russia allegedly kidnapped an 18-year-old woman on her birthday after she refused to marry him, according to a report Wednesday.

A video shows two men carrying Bella Ravoyan out of an apartment in Tambov, Russia, on a snowy evening and into a car that pulls up, news.com.au reported. The car drives off after she’s inside, according to the report. (RELATED: Cops Confirm Body Found Is Memphis Mom Who Was Snatched While On Morning Run)

The man she rejected, Amik Shamoyan, 20, his father Oganes, 48, and brother Alo, 24, allegedly kidnapped Ravoyan to try to get her to agree to marrying Amik, the outlet reported.

The woman’s father reported her missing after she had been gone for several days, according to the outlet. Amik confessed to the kidnapping to authorities, and his brother, who is at large, is on Russia’s federal wanted list. The Shamoyans could face up to 12 years in prison.

Local media has portrayed the kidnapping as a medieval “bride stealing” tradition, and some are saying that Ravoyan and Amik Shamoyan are related, according to the report.

“Amik was in love with this girl, and they kidnapped her,” an acquaintance told Russian newspaper, Gazeta Russia, according to news.com.au.
