A daughter of Los Angeles Mayor-elect Karen Bass was injured Thursday in a hit-and-run incident that sent her to the hospital, according to reports.

“While driving today, one of my daughters was the victim of a hit and run. Thankfully, she was not seriously hurt and is home after being cared for at the hospital,” Bass said in a statement, according to NBC 4.

The reported incident allegedly occurred just after 9 a.m., about eight miles west of downtown Los Angeles in the city’s West Adams neighborhood. Bass’ daughter, who has not been named in reports, remained at the scene, while the second vehicle departed not long after the collision, FOX 11 reported, citing a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) official. “I am grateful to the first responders and health care professionals who ensured her well-being. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the circumstances of this incident,” Bass continued, according to NBC4.

Bass beat out her Democratic challenger, billionaire real estate mogul Rick Caruso, in November to become the first woman elected mayor of Los Angeles, according to The Washington Post.

“Los Angeles is the greatest city on earth. I know, if we come together, hold each other accountable and focus on the best of who we are and what we can achieve, we can create better neighborhoods today and a better future for our children,” Bass said during her victory speech, according to The Post.

Bass lost her daughter, Emilia Bass-Lechuga and son-in-law Michael Wright, in a car accident in 2006, according to NBC4. She has four stepchildren: Scythia, Omar, Yvette and Ollin.
