The trailer finally dropped for the HBO limited series “White House Plumbers,” and it looks absolutely incredible.

Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux star as E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy in what appears to be a hilarious retelling of the Watergate scandal that destroyed the Nixon presidency. The trailer boasts slapstick humor, gritty political dramedy, and wall-to-wall stars.

HBO recommends watching “Veep” and “Succession” while we wait for “White House Plumbers’” release in March 2023, suggesting this show is more of a dark comedy than anything else — athough pretty much every other online description lists the show as a drama.

Neither “Succession” nor “Veep” are dramas. Comedies of error, maybe, but definitely not straight dramas. My hope is that the show doesn’t turn out to be an awkward wannabe drama with the occasional bit of slapstick thrown in.

After the first two seasons, “Succession” became totally unwatchable. “Veep” held out through its entire run, but also became real life(ish) in 2020, which wasn’t ideal. (RELATED: Woody Harrelson And Bill Maher Get High AF And Rip Apart ‘Big Government’ And ‘Big Pharma’)

Harrelson and Theroux are both superb dramatic and comedic actors, and both have the skill and timing to deliver the perfect historical storytelling needed around this story. I definitely don’t want to be lectured about the Watergate scandal. There is more than enough political prevarication in this world right now, and none of it is a form of escapism. Still, I am looking forward to watching the pilot to see what this thing actually is.
