Actress Geena Davis told New York Magazine’s Kara Swisher about two uncomfortable 1990 incidents allegedly involving Bill Murray that were a major “turn-off” for her.
Davis spoke on Swisher’s podcast, “On with Kara Swisher,” Jan. 9. She said the incidents occurred while she and Murray were filming “Quick Change.” The first of the two allegedly involved a personal massager, which Murray purportedly said he wanted to use on Davis while the two were in a meeting with co-producers of the movie.
“I’m like, ‘No, no, no thank you.’ And he keeps at it,” Davis said. “And I keep saying ‘No’ to the point where I would’ve had to scream at him, ‘Stop fucking asking me! I am not doing it. Do you understand?’ Which I was far too timid to do. So I perched on the corner of the bed and let him do it, and he did it for like one second, and then didn’t ask how I liked it or anything. So I realized it was just to see if he could force me to do something inappropriate.”
None of the producers jumped in to stop Murray’s alleged behavior, Davis said on the podcast. She later learned Murray had reportedly decided to test her ego, as she had just won an Oscar.
His alleged behavior continued the following day, Davis said. “We were shooting a huge scene out on an intersection in Manhattan with hundreds of extras and giant crew and all that stuff. And they said, ‘We’re ready for you to come to set.'”
“And I said, ‘Well, costumes asked me to wait here one second. Can I do that, or should I come with you?’ … The AD [assistant director] said, ‘No, go ahead. Wait here,'” she continued.
Murray then allegedly burst into Davis’ trailer, screaming at her to “‘Get the fuck out there! What the fuck are you doing? Move! Move!'” Davis said. Murray reportedly continued to scream at her until they were both outside and hundreds of people were watching the exchange. Davis is the latest in a series of actresses who’ve spoken about alleged incidents while filming with Murray, according to Variety. Lucy Liu said in 2021 that Murray made “inexcusable” insults to her on the set of “Charlie’s Angels.” Producers halted production on Aziz Ansari’s feature over Murray’s alleged behavior on set in 2022.
