Former NFL Player Jessie Lemonier Dies Suddenly At Age 25

Former Detroit Lions linebacker Jessie Lemonier died suddenly on Thursday at the age of 25.

The Detroit Lions team confirmed his death in a Twitter post.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier,” they wrote. “Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon.”

They signed off by acknowledging his loved ones left behind. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the Lions wrote in their tweet.

No cause of death has been reported at this time.

The former NFL star was drafted by the XFL’s Arlington Renegades in November but chose to sign with the USFL’s Houston Gamblers. He was then traded to the Birmingham Stallions, according to ESPN.

He was a promising young star that finished with 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks after seven games with the Lions in the 2021 season. (RELATED: Former NFL Star John Hadl Dead At 82)

Lemonier was signed with DEC Management, and was represented by Drew Smith. Smith announced that Lemonier and his girlfriend were expecting a child, according to ESPN.

Messages of love and support for Lemonier’s family have been posted online as shocked fans and loved ones grieve the unexpected loss.
