This was pretty hilarious.

Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is close to a second Super Bowl ring, but that didn’t stop him from getting pranked as former NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall got him good with a “compliment” from Rihanna, who is performing the halftime show for the big game.

Marshall sat with the press Feb. 8 and disguised himself as a reporter during a Mahomes press conference. When Marshall’s turn came, he asked Mahomes about “comments” Rihanna had made calling him the “greatest quarterback ever.”

“Rihanna came out and said that you are the greatest quarterback ever. Hearing that, how does that make you feel?” asked Marshall.

There’s only one problem — Rihanna never said that. Well, at least not publicly. Its possible she said it to herself in the privacy of her own home or something.

“It makes me feel great,” Mahomes responded, telling Marshall that “whatever Rihanna says is like the gospel” and that he expects her to “crush” the halftime performance. “I’m glad she went with me for that honor,” he added.

And Marshall sprang his trap: “She didn’t, I’m just messin’ around.”

Mahomes’ was speechless at first, but he quickly recovered his composure and told Marshall he’d been “up here smiling” before the good news turned out to be fake.

Oh man … How rough was this for Patrick Mahomes?

I know if that was me, I would’ve been smiling like Pat too, probably with an even bigger cheese. I mean, come on, this is Rihanna that you’re talking about calling me the greatest quarterback of all time. If you put that kind of happiness in a bottle, it would explode because there’s so much of it.

And then for that happiness to be outright deflated as a joke? (RELATED: Michael Irvin Pulled From NFL Network And ESPN’s Super Bowl Coverage After Complaint From Woman)

Holy cow, talk about a drastic difference of emotions in just a matter of seconds. I can’t help but to feel for Patrick Mahomes here, because you can tell that dude was mad over that, and I don’t blame him.

You can’t be playing around about Rihanna like that.
