Police on Wednesday issued a nationwide warrant for former MTV star Connor Smith, who allegedly tried to solicit sex with a minor in Lake County Illinois.

Police said Smith, former star of MTV’s “Are You the One,” interacted with an undercover detective online for several weeks, believing the detective was a 15-year-old girl, according to ABC News. He allegedly sent explicit material of himself and made arrangements to meet the young girl for the purpose of a sexual encounter February 9. Police attempted to arrest Smith, but he managed to flee, according to ABC News.

The warrant was issued on suspicion of trying to meet a child for a sexual encounter, according to TMZ.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that their officers were on-site at the meet-up location and were ready to arrest Smith when he attempted to pick up what he thought was a female under the age of 15. The former star managed to flee in his pickup truck and successfully evaded arrest, according to ABC News.(RELATED: REPORT: Nick Carter Sued For Alleged Sexual Battery)

“Initially detectives had been in communication with his representatives, he was going to turn himself in, however he has not turned himself in, and that’s why we’re asking for the community’s help,” Lt. Christopher Covelli said to ABC News.

Smith is facing numerous charges, including traveling to meet a minor and grooming, according to ABC News.
