Head coach Jacque Vaughn of the Brooklyn Nets received a multi-year contract extension with the team on Tuesday.

Brooklyn is ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference playoff picture with a season record of 34-24.

Vaughn has done a tremendous job in his first season as Brooklyn’s head coach.

The Nets are ranked top ten in the NBA this season in fewest points allowed, as well as in assists per game, according to ESPN. I believe Brooklyn’s top-level standings in these categories are a testament of Vaughn’s coaching. (RELATED: ‘Boring A** City’: Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal Roast Salt Lake City. Prior to the trade deadline, Vaughn dealt with major changes to his roster. After his two best players Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving forced their way out of town and were traded, the Nets acquired five new players. With Irving and Durant’s departures, the Nets have had 1/3 of their roster switched around. With that, Vaughn has faced the unenviable task of making new lineups for the Nets work. Considering how Brooklyn has yet to fall in the playoff standings with all of the roster changes, I believe Vaughn deserves votes for Coach of the Year when the time comes.

It’s been impressive how Vaughn has managed the Nets to still play good basketball despite all of the mid-season roster changes. He deserves this extension for responding well to the adversity the Nets organization has dealt with this season.
