Dramatic footage of a cop clinging to the roof of a suspect’s vehicle in a March 2021 car chase was released in May following the suspect’s prison sentence.

The footage, shared by KCCI, shows a wanted man driving away from a traffic stop with a cop standing on the hood of his vehicle, pointing his gun directly at the driver. The situation started as a normal traffic stop in western Iowa, but it turned out that the driver, Dennis Guider Jr., had a warrant out for his arrest in Illinois.

Guider refused to exit the vehicle when asked, and began to drive away. Police officer Patrick McCarty, jumped on the hood and started screaming “stop the f**king car,” as another cop attempted to open the driver’s side door before running back to his own squad car.

The full video shows the chase from multiple angles, including footage of Guider driving away with McCarthy on the roof, and when the officer was flung from the vehicle.

Guider asked for leniency in the case, because he apparently “feared for his life.” He claimed that the cops pulled a gun on him prior to his attempted escape, but the footage shows otherwise. (RELATED: I Stepped Outside For A Smoke Late Last Night And Ended Up Filming A High-Speed Police Chase)

The officer suffered a broken back from the incident, and the driver was sentenced to five years in prison for serious injury by vehicle. He will serve the sentence separately to his sentence in Illinois, KCCI noted.
