“The View” co-host Ana Navarro praised Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott for entering the 2024 presidential election Monday.

Scott filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run in the 2024 race. Navarro, who is typically critical of Republicans, said she is thrilled Scott is running.

“I’m also happy he’s in the race, because I think there’s such a dearth of melanin in the Republican Party and, also, of optimism and unity,” Navarro said. “The bar is low, right, so when what you’ve got there is Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis, who’s also going to announce this week, and they’re both full of grievances and piss and vinegar.”

“I really welcome somebody that speaks like Tim Scott, looks like Tim Scott and has lived the life of Tim Scott, to be on that stage with a different message. Even if I disagree vehemently, at least he’s not a jerk or a madman. That’s where my bar is,” she continued.

Co-host Sara Haines said she supports any Republican race that is not centered around former President Donald Trump, the current frontrunner of the party. (RELATED: ‘Great Statement’: Elon Musk Praises Tim Scott Ad About ‘Individual Responsibility’)

Co-host Sunny Hostin countered, and said Scott is not reaching to a large base in the Republican Party. She accused Republican voters of refusing to vote for a black man because they have “a real racism problem.”

“The Republican Party has a real racism problem,” Hostin claimed. “And those aren’t my words, those are the words of Michael Steele, in 2018, he was asked as a Republican and the former RNC chairperson that was the first black person to hold that position, and he said there’s a real problem with racism in the Republican Party. And he should know.”
