A Las Vegas mother was taken into custody after allegedly stabbing another parent following a road rage incident on the first day of school Monday, police say.

Akira Mays, 30, was arrested after allegedly stabbing another parent who had come to pick up his children from Steele Elementary School on Aug. 7, according to Fox 5 Vegas. The victim admitted to authorities that he had been involved in a “road rage” incident with Mays while picking up his children, leading to an argument outside their vehicles.

Mays told officers the incident began when the victim raced ahead of her in his vehicle, blocking her way as she was trying to leave the parking lot, 8 News Now reported. The victim then allegedly drove to the side of the street and exited his vehicle, making “hand gestures” at her.  In the argument that followed, Mays’ son allegedly exited his mother’s vehicle and warned the victim “not to talk to his mom like that,” the outlet stated.

Mays’ son allegedly punched the victim, who responded by pushing her son, according to Fox 5 Vegas. In retaliation, Mays then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, she admitted. Mays then left the scene, but was encouraged to call the school by a family member. School officials urged Mays to return to the school where she was subsequently taken into custody, according to 8 News Now.
