Data released by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has apparently determined the booziest countries and the results are pretty surprising.

While the data provided by OECD is not exactly as current as some outlets might want you to believe, it revealed that Denmark was the drunkest country of those surveyed for heavy episodic drinking in 2019. Romania was just behind, followed by Britain, which totally makes sense. Except, in Britain, we don’t call it “heavy drinking,” we call it “the weekend.”

But the results weren’t just limited to the drunkest nations overall. Latvia and Lithuania had the highest consumption of alcohol in 2021 for people aged 15 years and older, but they definitely weren’t the biggest binge drinkers.

On a more serious note, OECD analyzed data related to illicit drug use and deaths from opioids and found the U.S. was the overwhelming front-runner. Australia was just a little behind in overall opioid use, but the U.S. was so far ahead in opioid deaths, the next closest country was Estonia. And it was way behind. The U.S. also scored the lowest on physical activity and exercise, just behind New Zealand and South Korea. But here’s the thing: people in New Zealand and South Korea walk everywhere. Yes, they have cars, but they’re more likely to walk where they need to go than take a vehicle. Walking doesn’t even register as physical exercise, so I bet these results are slightly off.
