Former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated Thursday that he’d “probably be running” if he were still governor, noting that President Biden is not the strongest candidate Democrats have to offer.

Cuomo appeared on  “No BS News Hour with Charlie LeDuff” discussing various topics such as the pandemic lockdowns and his former sexual harassment allegations. However, the former governor notably discussed the upcoming 2024 presidential elections with LeDuff, telling the host that not only does he believe that there should be a primary against Biden, but that he would have been in the running. “Andrew, do you think they took you out because you were a challenge to Biden? And if you were still the governor, would you be running against Biden?” LeDuff questioned. To which Cuomo simply replied with, “Probably.”

LeDuff followed up by asking the former governor if removing him from office was “part of the mathematics,” suggesting Cuomo could’ve been “too big of a threat” to Biden. (RELATED: Former Bernie Sanders Staffer Says Democrats Have ‘Sold Out’ Their Base By Blocking Biden Challengers)

“Well, somebody would have to ask Biden that question, but I would probably be running,” Cuomo replied. “I think there should be a primary. I don’t think that Joe Biden is the strongest candidate against Donald Trump.”

“I’m worried about the election from the Democrats’ point of view. And I think this hope that well, ‘Trump is going to lose,’ – that’s no way to win a game. You don’t bet on the other team messing up, right? You have to play your game where you should win. And this whole strategy of ‘well Trump is going to get indicted and then yeah.’ Every time we indict the guy he goes up in the polls,” Cuomo stated.

Biden has significantly been dropping in approval ratings as inflation and the border crisis have affected millions of Americans. A recent poll from Morning Consult showed that Americans disapprove of the president by 54 percent.

Additionally, as Biden drops in the polls, allowing Trump to gain a slight lead in key swing states, many Democrats have been questioning the president as their 2024 nominee, with some noting his age as an issue.

Leader of the Democratic Party in Lorain County, Ohio, Sharon Sweda told the Post that Biden is “in a period of his life where passing and death is imminent.” Sweda noted that it could be a “nightmare scenario for Democrats” if the president were to make it as the nominee only to later drop out.
