This article contains spoilers for the Netflix series “Griselda.”

Sofia Vergara’s biggest role to date, as the lead in Netflix’s “Griselda,” dropped in January, and it is the most addictive crime show since “Narcos.”

Griselda” tells the mostly true story of Griselda Blanco, one of the most terrifying Colombian cocaine lords of the late 20th century. She was famously known as the “Godmother” of the industry, and seen as the reason why so many rich white Miami residents started getting into cocaine in a big way. Her business expertise and penchant for violence made her a force to be reckoned with, and Vergara’s portrayal captures this perfectly.

Within the first two minutes of “Griselda” you’ll likely be as addicted to the show as people in the 80s were to cocaine. Not only is the action, drama, and overall acting talent of the cast — particularly Vergara — outstanding, but the aesthetic of the show offers a pure escapism I’ve only previously felt from “Narcos.”

A handful of the “Narcos” team are behind the show, which makes sense. At this point, I wouldn’t trust anyone else in the entertainment industry to tell the story of the American drug trade, except possibly “Sicario” writer Taylor Sheridan. So far, the series is only supposed to be a single season. But after being absorbed into the world created by actors like Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Karol G and Martin Rodriguez, it’s hard to imagine this being a one-and-done series. Sure, there are reasons Vergara won’t be able to return, but that doesn’t mean the story of America’s cocaine empires is over just yet.
