Hollywood icon Michelle Pfeiffer might be joining or replacing Matthew McConaughey as the lead in the upcoming “Yellowstone” spinoff “2024,” insiders revealed Sunday.

The flagship “Yellowstone” series will draw to a close in 2024, a season ahead of schedule and a full year late. While this would be terrible for almost any television series, for the team behind “Yellowstone,” it’s probably a good thing. The series has been marred with more off-screen drama than on, and fans just want a finale worthy of the story so far.

McConaughey was initially tipped to lead the upcoming modern-day spinoff “2024,” not to be confused with prequel series “1883” and “1923.” But a report from Puck News, which initially broke stories related to leading man Kevin Costner’s fights with series co-creator Taylor Sheridan, suggests McConaughey might be out of the running.

Producers are apparently far more interested in Pfeiffer, who is currently in negotiations as the spinoff’s lead actress. (RELATED: ‘Yellowstone’ Star Gives McConaughey Some Tough-Love Over Working With Taylor Sheridan)

If she gets the job, Pfeiffer will join the likes of Jeremy Renner, Sylvester Stallone, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, David Oyelowo, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Billy Bob Thornton, Nicole Kidman and so many other A-listers who’ve lined up to take on a Sheridan-scripted role. But if she doesn’t, that just leaves Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton), Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) and Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton) to lead the series.

And all of the above allegedly have until the end of the week (Feb. 9, 2024) to make a decision on their deals. We’ll report back as soon as we know more! But honestly, I hope Luke Grimes leads the spinoff. He deserves it.
