The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office reported an attempted break and enter Sunday at the residence of reality television star Jenelle Evans, TMZ reported.

Police said there was evidence of a damaged lock on Evans’ back door at her home in North Carolina, according to TMZ. The star said she and her family were home at the time and described the harrowing experience.

“With everything going on already this couldn’t have happened at a worse time,” Evans told TMZ through her manager, August Keen. “Me and my children are safe but a bit shaken up. The local community and police department are doing everything to ensure the capture of this person.”

Police said an unidentified man attempted to force his way into Evans’ home from the back of her residence, and when he realized he wasn’t able to gain entry, he proceeded to go to her garage, where he began picking up her personal items and chucking them into her yard, according to TMZ.

“I’ll soon be exposing the details of what exactly happened that night,” she told TMZ.

“For now, we ask for prayers and privacy until me and my family recover from this terrifying experience. Thank you to everyone who is helping us to catch this perpetrator,” she told TMZ through Keen.

The Sheriff’s Office said there was no trace of the male suspect when their deputy arrived on-scene. It does not appear anything was stolen during this incident. The investigation remains ongoing at this time, according to TMZ.

The scary incident occurred just a few days after Evans regained custody of her 14-year-old son, Jace. She and Jace had been through a series of challenges, and he ran away numerous times, which triggered the involvement of Child Protective Services.
