A CNN panel got awkward Tuesday when a conservative guest joked about “cutting” himself on “CNN This Morning.”

CNN political commentator Jonah Goldberg shocked host Kasie Hunt and fellow panelists Audie Cornish and Ashley Etienne after making a dark joke to describe his reaction to Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell potential endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

“Do you buy that?” Hunt asked Goldberg. “I mean, in what world does — I mean, McConnell, after Jan. 6, had a hard, hard break with Donald Trump. What are the pressures that he is under right now? How do you think he’s thinking about this? And what are people going to think if he ultimately reconciles with a guy that, you know, basically led to the invasion of his house?”

“Yeah, I mean, it’s stories like this that are why I can’t stop cutting myself,” Goldberg replied. (RELATED: CNN Panelist Jonah Goldberg Says Biden’s Border Policies Expose ‘The Strings in The Puppet’)

“That got so dark so quickly,” Cornish remarked. “It’s breakfast time.”

“Let’s not joke about this,” Hunt said, extending a palm toward Goldberg.

McConnell has yet to endorse Trump for 2024, and he previously condemned the former president over the 2021 Capitol riot. In 2022, the GOP frontrunner tore into the Senate minority leader for being at odds with the majority of Republican voters, claiming that McConnell “does not speak for the Republican Party” and “did nothing to fight for his constituents.”
