Body Cam Captures Moments Before Florida Police Deadly Shooting

Authorities released the bodycam footage Monday of the moments before a deadly shooting in Davie, Florida.

The police department has released the video from the incident that took place in the early hours of Friday, according to Local News 10. The event reportedly resulted in the fatal shooting of a man identified as Steven Amann.

The incident occurred when law enforcement officers were responding to a medical emergency in the area, Local News 10 reported. During their efforts to provide assistance, officers reportedly encountered Amann, who reportedly emerged unexpectedly and began confronting them, according to the outlet. The officers tried to talk to Amann and find out why he was there, but he mostly stayed quiet and didn’t answer them, according to law enforcement, the outlet reported. The situation reportedly escalated when Amann allegedly seemed to reach for something behind his back, police stated.

Police alleged he moved to a spot where it was harder to see him, suddenly stood like he was going to shoot and pointed something at the officers, according to the outlet. His actions reportedly prompted officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in Amann’s injury, according to law enforcement. He received immediate medical attention from fire rescue teams present at the scene and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police stated, Local News 10 reported. The officers involved in the shooting have been identified by law enforcement as Sergeant Steve Lambert, Officer Matthew Correa and Officer Jarrett Wheeler, according to Local News 10. In line with protocol, all three officers have reportedly been placed on standard administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
